What is Gallbladder Cancer?

Gallbladder cancer begins in the inner lining of the gallbladder and can quickly spread to nearby organs such as the liver, bile ducts, and intestines. The most common type is adenocarcinoma, which forms in glandular cells. Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

Common Symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain, especially in the upper right side

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes)

  • Unintended weight loss

  • Fever

  • Lumps or swelling in the abdomen

  • Persistent bloating or indigestion

Since these symptoms often mimic gallstones or liver disease, timely medical evaluation is crucial.

Risk Factors:

  • Gallstones – the most common risk factor

  • Chronic gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis)

  • Gallbladder polyps

  • Female gender and age over 60

  • Obesity

  • Family history of gallbladder cancer
