What is Stomach Cancer?

Stomach cancer begins in the stomach lining and can spread to nearby organs if left untreated. The most common type is adenocarcinoma, which develops in the inner layer of the stomach. Early diagnosis and a tailored treatment strategy greatly improve the chances of recovery.

Common Symptoms:

  • Persistent indigestion or heartburn

  • Bloating after meals

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Loss of appetite

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Stomach pain or discomfort

  • Vomiting blood or blood in stool (in advanced stages)

These symptoms can often mimic other gastrointestinal issues, making early evaluation essential.

Risk Factors:

  • Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection

  • Long-term gastritis or acid reflux

  • Smoking and alcohol consumption

  • Diet high in salty, smoked, or processed foods

  • Family history of stomach cancer

  • Previous stomach surgery or polyps

  • Pernicious anemia or chronic stomach inflammation
