What is Testicular Cancer?

Testicular cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in one or both testicles. The most common types are germ cell tumors, which include seminomas and non-seminomas. It often presents as a painless lump and can spread quickly if left untreated — but it is also one of the most curable cancers, especially when diagnosed early.

Common Symptoms:

  • A painless lump or swelling in the testicle

  • A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum

  • Dull ache in the lower abdomen or groin

  • Sudden fluid buildup in the scrotum

  • Pain or discomfort in a testicle or scrotum

  • Enlargement or tenderness of breast tissue (in rare cases)

Prompt evaluation is essential if any of these symptoms occur.

Risk Factors:

  • Undescended testicle (cryptorchidism)

  • Family history of testicular cancer

  • Previous history of testicular cancer

  • HIV infection

  • Age (typically between 15 and 40 years)

  • Genetic disorders (like Klinefelter syndrome)
